What's going on in the bandroom?

September

(22-9-03) At extremely short notice (1 week) YBS Concert Band cancelled their appearance at the bandroom due to a double booking and Glossop Band kindly agreed to step into the breach. The band worked extremely hard during the two rehearsals available and managed to change over half of the programme. Not least of which were Toccata and Folk Festival as our finisher and encore! The band also managed to feature two new solo's which were Love on the Rocks (Janet Lewis) and La Belle Americaine (Pete Bowd). Here's hoping that the audience don't get to hear the band until their next scheduled concert on 9th November.

(7-9-03) The band was extremely proud to play the first concert of the new season in the newly decorated bandroom. Gone are the musty uniforms and banners, cobwebs and especially the horrid damp patches on the walls. There were many new and old faces in the audience and one lady commented that she wouldn't have to take off all her clothes at her doorstep to throw in the washing machine! There were many other kind comments on the evening which related to both the appearance of the bandroom and the content and playing of the programme.

July/August

At long last the bandroom is being decorated. During our summer break many people have been busy washing walls, plastering, cleaning, painting, tidying, putting up shelves, sorting out the library and many other chores. The place will be barely recognisable and hopefully it will be more appealing and attract many more visitors to the bandroom. There are too many people to thank individually on the website for their help but you all know who you are and our sincere thanks go to you all.

The next concert by the band will be on Sunday 7th September and we hope that we see many old and new faces at the concert.

On Sunday 27th July, the bandroom hosted a charity band to raise money for the Ward 27, MRI Patient Amenity Fund. This is the ward where Phil Fox recently underwent a bonemarrow transplant. The evening saw a massive £500 raised for the charity and many thanks go to the audience for their kind support and donations.

The programme was wide an varied and hopefully there was something on their to suit everyone. I will attempt to list the players and bands but please forgive me if I have got something wrong.

The band are having a few weeks break and hopefully will be decorating the bandroom during the month of August when there are no bands.

After the hectic few months it is nice to have a bit of a respite and play some different music for a change. We have been delving back into the archives to find some 'golden oldies' for our next concert in September.
