Old News

March 2004

The band competed at the Midlands Area on Sunday 7th March in Burton-on-Trent and unfortunately came 13th. This contest was also Alison Parkers last contest with the band as she has had to leave the band due to look after her daughter Charlie. She will be missed by the band and we hope that she will find the odd night to come and blow with us.

February 2004

The band would like to congratulate Andrea Walmsley on the recent birth of baby daughter Isabelle. Mother and baby are doing fine.

The band would also like to welcome John Clough onto 2nd baritone. John joins the band from Ashton and we are delighted to have such an experienced player in our ranks. The only person not too happy is his son, Paul Clough (BBb bass), who will have to behave himself from now on. Our best wishes also go to Paul who was 21 on Thursday 26th Feb.

Sorry there hasn't been much news reported recently but I hope to keep regular updates from now on. The band is busy rehearsing Tristan Encounters for the area and we are making steady progress. The band would like to welcome John Clough on Baritone and hope that he has an enjoyable time with the band.

January 2004

Many thanks go to the Friezland Band for stepping in at short notice on Sunday 11th January. Ashton band were booked to play but cancelled on Saturday 3rd. Lana Clough, conductor of Friezland, just so happened to be playing at the No-Stars concert on the 4th and kindly volunteered her band to be the "stars on Sunday" following in the previous two weeks band names of All Star and No Star. However, during the week news broke that the body discovered in the Lake District was that of Dr Richard Stevens who had been missing for six months. Dr Stevens played front-row cornet for the Friezland Band. Determined that the show must go on the band agreed to fulfill the engagment and during the evening played a fitting tribute to Richard of The Irish Blessing.

Once again Glossop Bandroom has been host to two charity concerts over the festive period. On the 28th January the All Star Band raised nearly £800 for the Ward 27 at Manchester Royal Infirmary (Where Phil Fox had his Bone Marrow Transplant and still receives treatment). On Sunday 4th January the New Year started with No-Stars Brass which raised £300 for Glossop Womens Aid.
